One of my favourite films of ALL TIME!!!!
When i was out with the girls the other night and at least 3 songs from the sound track of this film came on and just made me want to curl up and watch it. Along with Grease i can count on Dirty Dancing to put a smile back on my face when Patrick Swazey famously says "Don't put baby in the corner" and who doesn't sing with when 'time of your life'.
If you have never seen the film Baby (Jennifer Grey) and her family are on summer vacation to a resort in the 1960's. Baby is the good girl of the family and is going to go into the Peace Core after she graduates from college. During her first few days at the Kellerman's resort Baby meets Johnny (Patrick Swayze) one of the dance instructors and is intrigued by the 'dirty dancing' that she sees when she goes to a staff party with Billy she carries "a watermelon" and ends up dancing with johnny again.
Johnny's dance partner finds out shes pregnant by a guy who doesn't care about her only how he can further himself (not going to mention who it is because SPOILER you just have to watch to find out) any way after some discussion Baby agrees to fill in for Penny and dance with Johnny the only thing is that she doesn't know how to dance and its up to Johnny to teach her. This leads to one of my favourite scenes in the whole film, where they go to the lake to practice the lifts and ignites there love for each other.
I don't really want so say much more because if you haven't seen it then i don't want to give away any spoilers but if you have seen it then you know just how great this film is. It is a film that everyone should see, it is the ultimate love story good girl falls in love with the bad boy who daddy doesn't approve of when actual fact he should be more worried about her sisters boyfriend.
The film stars Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze, Jerry Orbach, Kelly Bishop, Jane Brucker, Cynthia Rose, Jack Weston, Max Cantor, Lonny Price and Neal Jones.
The film won a Golden Globe, a Grammy and an Academy award for best song for '(I've had) The Time of My Life' which i still love to this day.
I have heard rumors that they are planning to remake this film and in my opinion it just shouldn't be touched remakes rarely work and in most cases they are always way worse than the original. It is such an iconic film that is loved by everyone across the generations i would hate it if it got remade.
The film is available on DVD from amazon for £3 so its a great bargain and with that price whats left to say.
Rating: 10/10
Whats your favourite part of the film??
