October Baby

Certificate: 12A  Director: Andrew Erwin and John Erwin Cast: Rachel Hendrix, Jason Burkey, John Schneider and Jasmine Guy Distributor: Provident Films and Samuel Goldwyn Films Running Time: 107mins

Hannah (Rachel Hendrix) is a 19 year old student who suffers from many things including asthma, epilepsy and depression, when during her debut in the school play she collapses on stage and is rushed to hospital. At the hospital she has a meeting with her parents (John Schneider and Jennifer Price) and her doctor to discuss what is causing all her problems, when her parents finally tell her that she is adopted, and not only was she adopted but that she was the result of a failed abortion!!! Which starts to make Hannah question everything about herself as you would expect.

After the revelations from her parents we find Hannah down by a lake where her best friend Jason (Jason Burkey) finds her, after talking to him and just get everything off her chest with the help of Jason she talks through all her options and settles on one . . . . . to find her birth mother.

Obviously her parents aren't happy about the idea but Hannah goes anyway. So she joins the road trip with Jason and his friends who are on their way to New Orleans for spring break and they are passing through Mobile, Alabama where Hannah was born. Also along on the road trip is Jason's girlfriend Alanna (Colleen Trusler) who for some reason doesn't like Hannah, and they come to blows one night when they are forced to share a room together at the motel that they were staying at which leaves Hannah leaving in the middle of the night and Jason finding her walking along the road the next morning.

When they arrive in Mobile they find out that the hospital that Hannah was born in had closed down but they decide to break in anyway, that leads them to being arrested for breaking and entering. When Hannah breaks down and explains everything to the police officer he decides to help her after he remembers dealing with the clinic that Hannah's birth mother went to get the abortion from and he remembers one of the nurses who worked there and she just happened to be the one to have signed Hannah's birth certificate.

After getting the address for the nurse Hannah heads out to find the nurse, Mary (Jasmine Guy) who tells Hannah everything about what happened with Hannah's mother, the failed abortion, the birth and what happened afterward, which leaves Hannah with so many different emotions running through her head and with the address of her birth mother. When Hannah goes to see her birth mother it doesn't go well and to make matters worse her dad is waiting for her when she get out of the office angry and ready to take her home.

When she gets home Hannah ends up at a church where she lets go of all her emotions to a Priest (Rodney Clark) who guides Hannah on the path of forgiveness not just to her birth mother, to her parents, Jason and herself.

I really like this film, i cried towards the end i couldn't help myself, but it is such a good film about life as we follow Hannah on her journey. I loved watching the relationship between Hannah and Jason grow into something more and was so glad when he broke up with his horrid girlfriend. There are some great bits that involve everyone on the road trip whilst they are in the van which include Jason's friend Truman and Truman's cousin B-Mac

I would definitely recommend watching October Baby
