Divergent Review

I will be the first to admit that i hadn't heard of the books until the trailer for the film came out and saw that Theo James was in it, if your British you might remember that he was in the Sky Living show Bedlam and also the Inbetweeners movies and of course Shailene Woodley was in the Secret Life of the American Teenager.

I couldn't stop reading the book and i think i read in about 6hrs non stop, i kept hearing people compare it to the Hunger Games and i can see the similarities but i didn't like the Hunger Games i found the story line barbaric and just didn't enjoy the whole concept, but with Divergent i really enjoyed it.

I don't want to give to much away about the film but if you have read the book you will know what happens. Obviously they have changed it a bit so it flows better on the big screen but the basics are still there. Beatrice Prior (Woodley) takes the test like the other teenagers to determine what faction she belongs in, does she belong in Abnegation with her family or does she belong in one of the other factions. The results of the test reveals that she is Divergent she doesn't fit in just one faction. At the choosing ceremony she chooses Dauntless, the warriors where they are trained to fight and defend the city. When Tris enters the Dauntless compound she meets one of the instructors Four (James) and begins the brutal training to become a member of Dauntless or end up factionless. Whilst she is training she must keep her Divergent status hidden other wise she will be killed by the people who want rid of the Divergent who are uncontrollable by people like Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet) who wants power over everyone.

I loved the film and it didn't really change much from the book, it kept as close as i possibly could, we see the relationship between Tris and Four, we see the brutal training Tris under gos as well as the bullying by Peter (Miles Teller) who is determined to be top of the class as well as the friendship between Tris and Christina (Zoe Kravitz).

I still have the last book to read in the series and will be stating it soon, I can't wait to see how it all ends. I suggest that you read the book before the film, but you won't be disappointed it is a brilliant series.

The film is directed by Neil Burger and also stars Maggie Q, Ansel Elgort, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Tony Goldwyn.

The film is out in the UK on the 4th April

Rating: 10/10

Veronica Mars The Movie Review

It's finally here the 14th March

I had the film downloading at just gone midnight and i have just finished watching it and i was't disappointed!!

It was fantastic without giving to many spoilers away Veronica (Kristen Bell) is happily living in New York with Piz (Chris Lowell) having interviews with high power law firms (enter first cameo Jamie Lee Curtis) when she hears on the news that Bonnie DeVille aka Carrie Bishop (was played by Leighton Meester in the series) and gets a call from Logan (Jason Dohring) for help after 9 years without speaking.

Surprise surprise when Veronica gets back to Neptune she can't resist her old ways to help solve the mystery of Bonnie's death and clear Logan's name (who by the way is now a fighter pilot). Whilst the film develops we see the connection between Logan and Veronica reignite and it's brilliant. Along the way there are twist and turns in the case leaving us wondering what really happened.

Some highlights for me where the high school reunion/after party you all probably know what scene i mean when Veronica punches Madison Sinclair, when Logan takes out Ruby Jetson on a date, the bit with Vinnie Van Lowe, James Franco's cameo and any scene with Dick (Ryan Hanson) he steels most scenes that he is and i love him he was one of my favourite characters from the series. Other people who make an appearance are; Wallace (Percy Deggs,) who is know a teacher at Neptune, Mac (Tina Majorino), Gia Goodman (Kristen Ritter), Vinnie Van Lowe (Ken Marino), Keith Mars (Enrico Colantoni), Leo (Max Greenfield) and Weevil (Francis Capra) as well as a few familiar faces from the series and some cameos include Dax Shepard and Justin Long

All in all i think Rob Thomas did a really good job was surprised by the conclusion to the case and some of the events and could have a sequel in it future (finger crossed). But it was definitely worth the donating to the kickstarter campaign as it was by far worth it. The film is amazing and i bet i am not the only marshmellow out there that was/is waiting for midnight.

The films will be ready to download from iTunes when ever midnight is in your time zone you won't be disappointed.

Rating 5/5

The Oscars 2014

It is the biggest awards show on the planet and watched by millions and it was brilliant!!

I have to say i wasn't sure about Ellen DeGeneres as being the host but i thought she was brilliant. There were some great moments through out the night including the "Pizza Party", Meryl Streep dancing with Pharrell, Jennifer Lawrence falling over again!! and i can't forget about the best 'selfie ever' that broke twitter

Its a who's who of Hollywood in one picture!! Its almost like can you name the celebrities

So i made some Oscar predictions a little while ago for the big awards and got three right, was so happy that Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughy won the supporting actor and best actor awards for Dallas Buyers Club because they were amazing. Lupita Nyong'o won best supporting actress for 12 Years a Slave as well as it winning the Best Picture award. Kate Blanchett picked up the best actress award for Blue Jasmine and Alfonso Cuaron won best director for Gravity.

If you could win an award for best photobomb it would deffo be going to Benedict Cumberbatch

It was a brilliant night of celebration of this years excellent films and each and every winner was well earned in a very tough year with a lot of excellent films.

I still think that Emma Thompson should have had a nomination for Saving Mr Banks

What was your highlight of the night?

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day everyone!!!

If like me you and you actually hate this day you are probs doing something similar to me and my flat mate which includes copious amounts of junk food and films that have no such relation to valentines day.

For the last few years me and my flatmate have completely avoided valentines day and have banned romcoms from our flat. Last year we had a Marvel marathon and the year before we watched Underworld and this year we are channeling our inner nerd, it was a close call between watching all 3 Lord of The Rings movies or Star Trek marathon, Star Trek won out cause we probs wouldn't be able to stay awake through all 9+ hours of LOTR.

Don't get me wrong i love a good romcom and there are normally some good ones out this time of year but i can hold out on seeing them for at least a week to avoid the valentines rush.

Does anyone else have their own Valentines traditions???

The Winter Olympics

If like me your a bit of a sports freak and will pretty much watch any form of sport, including staying up until 3 in the morning to watch the Superbowl even though i live in the UK these next two weeks are full of excitement with the start of the winter Olympics in Sochi (Russia).

My TV and film watching gets over taken by an array of winter sports from Snow Boarding to Figure Skating to Curling (which is awesome) #lovecurling and its brilliant as i cheer on Team GB but also discover some sports i never new about of which the Moguls are my favourite, don't actually see the point of it but its brilliant hurling yourself down a hill full of bumps and jumps as fast as you can. What could possibly go wrong???

So bring on the next two week filled with some awesome sporting events. If you live in the UK check out the BBC Sport website for the schedule of events and the latest news.

What events have you enjoyed, discovered or looking forward to?? let me know

The Fault in Our Stars

When i saw the trailer for this film the story line kind of reminded me of Now is Good with Dakota Fanning but i imagine that is not the case.

The film is based on the novel by John Green and follows Hazel (Shailene Woodley) who is suffering from cancer but her world takes another twist when she meets Augustus (Ansel Elgort) at a cancer support meeting and Hazels life takes another turn.

The book is on my very long reading list along with Shailene Woodley's other film this year Divergent and lots of other books.

The trailer looks like its going to be one of the films that is going to take the audience on an emotional roller-coaster but you put your self through it to get to the happy ending.

The film also stars Willem Dafoe, Nat Wolff, Laura Dern and Sam Trammell.

The film is set for release this summer on the 6th June and don't forget to read the book as well

The Blacklist

I know that my blog up until this point has been about film but recently i have been getting into a lot of different TV shows and this tends to happen this time of year there are very few film releases and TV is back after its Christmas hiatus and i have developed a slight netflix addiction.

Any way one of the shows i was most looking forward to returning is The Blacklist and it didn't disappoint. If you haven't watched the first series you should it was brilliant and a must watch. I don't want to give away to much but the story revolves around Red Reddington (James Spader who was nominated for a Golden Globe for the role) is one of the FBI's most wanted criminals and decides to hand him self over in order for him to take down criminals on his 'list' but with a catch, he will only work with Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) for some unknown reason that does become evident as you follow the story along.

The show also stars Ryan Eggold who plays Tom Keen, Elizabeth's teacher husband who seems to have some mystery about him, Harry Lennix as Harold Cooper the head of the FBI unit, Diego Klattenhoff as Donald Ressler who has been trying to catch Red unsuccessfully for years and Parminder Nagra as Agent Meera Malik the CIA agent.

I don't want to give to much away but it is a deffo must watch even if you are not a fan of 'crime' or 'detective' shows it is definitely worth a watch.

The Blacklist started back in the US last week and is due back on Sky Living int he UK soon.
